Celtic have been linked with Aaron Hickey for quite a while now. The club were believed to have been interested in him back when he was with Hearts. And they were linked with a move to sign him from Bologna in the summer as well. But till now, they have not succeeded in bringing back the former Hoops academy star to Parkhead.

On the other hand, left-back remains an area of worry for the club. At this point of time, Celtic do not appear to have a first-choice left-back.

Ange Postecoglou has Greg Taylor, who is currently out injured, Boli Bolingoli, Adam Montgomery and Liam Scales in his squad. But none of them have quite managed to nail down the left-back spot. In fact, nobody has since Kieran Tierney departed for Arsenal in the summer of 2019. So much so, that Josip Juranovic, who is a Croatian international right-back, is playing there at the moment.

Thus, it is not hard to see why Celtic have been linked with someone like Hickey. But his recent comments have handed the club’s hopes of signing him a blow.

Hickey’s comments hand Celtic a transfer blow

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Hickey said about life at Bologna:

"“When I first arrived in Bologna it was a totally new thing for me. As it was lockdown, it was a wee bit difficult.“But it’s been a good while now and I’m settled. I’ve learned a lot in many ways, on and off the pitch.“When I was injured I was focused on getting back in the team and trying to do the best I could.“My aim for the season was to get in the team and get goals. So far I’ve done that, which is good.“The game here is more tactical and I think I prefer that.”"

It appears that Hickey is enjoying his time at Bologna and is now settled there. And considering the amount of chances that he is getting, he should be.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 11 appearances for Bologna in the Serie A this season, playing 819 minutes of football and also has a couple of goals to his name.

He has featured in every league game for the Italian club in this campaign till now, as they sit at a solid 10th in the Serie A table at the moment.

That is very impressive for a player who is still just 19 years of age and the future looks very bright for Hickey. As for a move to Celtic, that might be a bit unlikely at the moment.
