Celtic strengthened significantly in the summer transfer window, bringing in twelve players to Parkhead overall, with ten coming in on a permanent basis and two on loan deals with an option to buy included. But it is clear that there is much more work needed in Ange Postecoglou’s squad. And it appears that the Hoops were quoted a £6.8 million transfer fee for one of their key targets in the summer.

There are several areas in this squad that need reinforcements. One of them is left-back.

At the moment, the club have the likes of Greg Taylor, Adam Montgomery, Boli Bolingoli and Liam Scales in their squad but none of them have managed to nail down their spot at left-back. And one man that they were linked with in the summer is Bologna’s Aaron Hickey.

According to the Daily Record, Celtic were reportedly quoted a £6.8 million transfer fee for their former academy star in the summer. And that is expected to only go up after his recent performances.

Celtic were linked with a move for Hickey in the summer

Celtic have been linked with a move for Hickey for a while now dating as far back as when he first broke into the senior level with Hearts.

Now at Bologna, it is safe to say that he is doing brilliantly. This season, he has started in all of their Serie A games and impressed immensely, as the Italian side sit at a solid 10th in the league table.

What is even more impressive is the fact that he is still just 19 years of age and would be expected to improve a lot moving forward. Thus, the sky might be the limit for someone like Hickey. A return to Celtic looks much more unlikely at this point of time though, but never say never in football.
