Celtic will need to make additions to their squad in the January transfer window and one player that they have been linked with is Daizen Maeda. The Yokohama F. Marinos star has been superb in recent times and it is not hard to see why the club might be interested in him. And journalist Kieran Devlin appears to have confirmed a massive boost in the Hoops’ transfer chase.

Maeda is currently the leading scorer in the J1 League and has already played under the management of Ange Postecoglou. In fact, he was the manager who brought him to Yokohama F. Marinos.

He has proven to be a spectacular signing for the Japanese club and now it remains to be seen if Postecoglou can bring Maeda to Glasgow as well. And recent rumours have suggested that Celtic are confident of their chances of signing him.

Journalist Kieran Devlin was asked about the rumours linking Maeda to Celtic in a Q & A on The Athletic and as reported by The Transfer Tavern, he replied:

"“They are credible, yes. Unless something dramatic happens that will need addressing, Monday’s article will be a tactical profile of Maeda and how he might fit in at Celtic.”"

Maeda could prove to be a tremendous signing for Celtic

It is safe to say that Celtic do not have the deepest squad at this point of time and they could do with more options all over the pitch.

Going forward is one area that they certainly need more options in. Both Mikey Johnston and James Forrest have suffered multiple injuries in recent times and it remains to be seen if they can stay fit moving forward.

On the other hand, Kyogo has been absolutely brilliant since arriving but there does not appear to be another forward at Celtic right now who can find the back of the net on a consistent basis.

Maeda is capable of playing as a winger as well as a second striker and a centre-forward if the situation calls for it. His incredible pace, stamina, movement, off the ball work and ability to finish with both his feet could also make him the perfect player for Postecoglou’s system.
