Just when it had looked like Celtic had brought their season back on track and were building up some serious momentum, they have been handed major worries. In midweek, Tom Rogic picked up an injury against Hibernian which looks set to keep him out for a few weeks at least and then, Carl Starfelt had to be substituted off against Livingston as well.

When Ange Postecoglou has had his best players available, this team has shown that they can challenge for the Premiership title. But their injury problems combined with their lack of depth in certain positions means that the Hoops have not been able to keep up any sort of momentum for an extended period of time.

Thus, it is safe to say that Postecoglou will need as many players available as he can have moving forward. And in that regard, there appears to be some very positive news.

The Celtic manager has confirmed that James McCarthy is once again fit and available, and he will get an opportunity in the coming weeks. As reported by the Daily Record, Postecoglou said:

"“James McCarthy has had injuries and his pre-season was difficult but he’s back fit now and he’s available.“He’ll get an opportunity in the coming weeks and hopefully he takes it.”"

McCarthy’s return is very important for Celtic

McCarthy arrived at Celtic this summer but has not been able to get it going yet, struggling to reach match fitness and picking up injuries. It is great news that he is available once again though.

Right now, Celtic do not have a lot of depth in midfield in the first place and Rogic’s injury, who was in great form recently, has only made things harder for them.

If McCarthy can find some form and fitness, it will be a huge boost for the Hoops. On top of his game, he is a very good player who can make a big contribution to this Celtic team. One can only hope that the midfielder discovers his best form moving forward.
