After a slow start to life at Celtic, Carl Starfelt has very much come into his own and discovered his form in recent weeks. He has managed to nail down a spot in the heart of the Hoops’ defence alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers. As a result, the Swedish defender’s injury while playing against Livingston was a major blow for the club.

Starfelt had started the game, as he has done so often in recent times, but appeared to pull up in the second half and had to be substituted off before the hour mark.

This will be a worry for Ange Postecoglou, who has already seen several of his players spend time on the sidelines with injury this season. And it looks like Starfelt’s name might very well have been added to that quickly growing list now.

While speaking with BBC Radio Scotland and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, the Celtic manager said regarding Starfelt’s injury:

"“We’ll wait and see on Carl Starfelt. He felt something in his hamstring. He’ll get a scan tomorrow and we’ll see.“With Carl coming off today and Tommy the other day, it’s the nature of football when you play so many games in a short space of time. You’re going to get some injuries and you’re going to need a big squad.”"

Celtic handed massive worry with Starfelt injury against Livingston

It was just in midweek that Celtic had seen Tom Rogic pick up a hamstring injury, which is expected to see the Australian miss the next few weeks of action. And it looks like Starfelt has picked up a hamstring problem as well and will get a scan tomorrow.

This is a massive worry for the club. It is safe to say that they do not have the biggest squad right now which has limited the amount of rotation that Postecoglou can make. As a result, he has had to rely on a core group of players till now.

With the amount of football that some of these players have been playing, it is not a big surprise that there have been some injuries though. Of course, if Celtic are to keep up their momentum, they will need their best players to be available. And it remains to be seen what effect this Starfelt injury will have on the team moving forward.
