Callum McGregor makes brutally honest Celtic title race admission

Celtic find themselves in a great position right now. The club are coming off of five straight wins across all competitions, with four being in the Scottish Premiership and three of them have even been away from home. As a result, they now sit at second in the table, just two points behind the Rangers and are very much the team with momentum on their side right now.

Not many would have seen this coming though. Just a few weeks back questions were being raised about whether this team was good enough to even finish second and whether Ange Postecoglou had a long-term future at Celtic.

That’s how quickly things can change in football. A bad run of results and those questions can return once again. And Callum McGregor seems to be very aware of that, as he realises this is not the time to get excited about things.

As reported by STV, the Celtic captain said regarding the current situation:

"“It’s still early doors.“We were probably on the receiving end of those questions a few weeks ago before the international break and you see how quickly it can turn. By no means do we start to look at the end game.“It’s a quarter of the way through the season and there’s so much football to be played.”"

McGregor did make an exciting claim about this Celtic side and their potential for the future:

"“The good thing about this team is that I still think there’s improvement in it as well. We’ll keep putting demands on each other to get better and better and I think you saw the fruits of that tonight.“I think we just look at ourselves. We look at our fixtures and where we can get points and we approach every game to get maximum points and to keep getting better.“This is a completely new team and we’re still finding out just how good we could be.”"

Celtic find themselves in a good position but McGregor recognises how quickly things can change

It is safe to say that McGregor has got it absolutely spot on here. This is not the time to look at results elsewhere or even the points table for that matter. The fans and the pundits will do that.

The players must be focused on one game at a time and winning three points as often as possible. Over the course of the 38-game season, the table will work itself out.

It is great to see the Celtic captain have this kind of an attitude about the present situation and hopefully it will help the team moving forward.

Their next game is against Livingston, who already hold a win over Celtic this season. But this time around, the game will be at Parkhead and that will be a massive advantage for the Hoops.
