Liam Scales arrived at Celtic from Shamrock Rovers with a big reputation. He was considered by many as the biggest talent in the League of Ireland before he arrived at Parkhead.

Many even felt that he was good enough to come in and immediately make an impact in the Celtic first-team. It is safe to say that that has not been the case till now.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Scales has only made a couple of appearances for Celtic till now – both coming off the bench – and has featured for just 43 minutes of football overall.

The feeling has been that he is still adjusting to Ange Postecoglou’s style of football. But with the competition very high at both left-back and centre-back right now, he might find it difficult to break into the starting XI anytime soon.

Of course, there are still a couple of months till the January transfer window opens. But if he is not featuring more regularly by then, then it would be a good idea to send Scales out on loan in order to gain some experience in Scottish football, preferably to another Premiership club if the opportunity presents itself.

Liam Shaw

Liam Shaw had signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic while he was with Sheffield Wednesday and arrived at Parkhead this summer. It is safe to say that the move has not worked out as most people would have expected.

Shaw is yet to make his competitive debut for the club, similar to Osaze Urhoghide, another former Sheffield Wednesday player who has struggled for minutes at Celtic since arriving in the summer.

While capable of playing in both midfield and defence, it is hard to see Shaw featuring at either of those positions anytime soon. Thus, a January loan move might be the best step forward for him right now.
