Celtic have made a mixed start to the season but Ange Postecoglou has already managed to win the support of the fans. There has been a lot to be excited about when it comes to this team and we have already seen how good they can be at the top of their game. Signs are bright for the future and Chris Sutton has made a huge transfer demand to the board.

At this point of time, Celtic do not have the deepest squad. Not even close. In fact, we have seen them struggle this season already when the likes of Kyogo, Callum McGregor and others went down with injury.

Thus, they will definitely need to add to their squad in the upcoming transfer windows despite the fact that they signed twelve players in the summer, either permanently or on loan.

Sutton has called for the board to back Postecoglou in January and beyond, and also to sign Jota permanently after his bright start to the campaign. The former Celtic star wrote in his Daily Record column:

"Ange Postecoglou has asked fans to put their faith in him, to believe in his methods and trust his judgement.I get the sense most supporters are doing just that. The Celtic board need to trust him as well – and that means backing him when January comes and beyond. It also means getting ready to get the cheque book out next summer to secure Jota on a permanent deal."

It is believed that there is an option to buy around £6.5 million in Jota’s loan deal and Sutton admits that it is a lot of money for Celtic but he also believes that the club cannot lose out on a player like him:

"Six and a half million is a lot of money to Celtic. It’s not a sum they’ve stumped up too often over the years. But I would spin it around – could they afford not to splash that kind of dosh on a player who will have had a season under his belt at Parkhead."

Jota has made a spectacular start to life at Celtic since arriving on loan from Benfica

It is safe to say that Jota has been absolutely brilliant ever since arriving on loan in the summer. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists in 10 appearances for Celtic till now.

Even more impressively, this is the Portuguese winger’s first real taste of consistent senior football anywhere and as a result, he would be expected to improve even further as he gets more experience under his belt.

Thus, if Jota continues to perform like this throughout the course of the season, Celtic must do all they can to sign him on a permanent basis next summer.
