Celtic are building up some serious momentum at the moment. Ange Postecoglou’s side have won four straight games across all competitions and three in the Premiership, meaning they have managed to climb up to fourth in the points table. And if the Rangers end up losing today, the gap between the top of the table and the Hoops will be just one point.

That would be incredible considering where this team were just a few weeks ago and questions had already started to crop up regarding Postecoglou’s long-term future at Parkhead.

Some players have managed to stand out for Celtic this season. One of the most surprising of them has been Anthony Ralston. Coming into the campaign not many would have thought the Scottish right-back would be a regular in the starting XI just a few months later but that is exactly what has transpired since the appointment of Postecoglou.

Ralston appears to have taken his game to the next level and rumours broke out recently that the club have opened contract extension talks with the defender.

Postecoglou confirms Celtic new contract update

As reported by the Daily Record, Postecoglou confirmed that the club are speaking to Ralston about a contract extension already, as the Celtic manager said:

"“In terms of Tony, Michael Nicholson (interim chief executive) is in charge of that area.“My focus is trying to make sure that Anthony continues his development because he’s been fantastic.“Contract negotiations will take care of themselves. There’s very little need to feel angst about it.“The club has a lot of faith in Tony. That’s why they gave him a new contract before I even started here.“I gave him a chance and you’d have to say he’s grabbed it with both hands so far.”"

It is safe to say that Ralston has done tremendously well this season. He has looked solid at the back for the majority of the time, scored a couple of incredible goals and even provided an assist in the 2-0 win against St Johnstone for Giorgos Giakoumakis’ first goal for the Hoops.

Thus, despite the arrival of Croatian international, Josip Juranovic, in the summer, it looks like the Scottish right-back will continue to play a big part in Postecoglou’s team this season.

His current deal with the club is believed to run out in the summer of 2022 though and as a result, it would be a good idea to hand him a new deal as soon as possible. Based on his performances this season, he certainly deserves it.
