Giorgos Giakoumakis arrived at Celtic with a lot of expectations in the summer after an incredible season with VVV-Venlo, when he finished as the top scorer in the Eredivisie. His start to life at Parkhead has not been the greatest though.

He arrived on transfer deadline day and did not have much of a pre-season. As a result, he has struggled for fitness till now and is yet to make a start for Celtic. But his recent displays have been very impressive.

Giakoumakis looked rusty on his debut for the Hoops. But in the past two games against Motherwell and Ferencvaros, he has come in as a substitute and looked very sharp.

He could have easily gotten his first goal for the club against Ferencvaros and his performance has definitely got the fans talking. And the Greek striker sent a message to the Celtic support after the game. He wrote on his Instagram:

"“One more beautiful afternoon with these amazing fans by our side!”"

Giakoumakis can turn out to be a brilliant signing for Celtic

It must be said that there are some questions surrounding Giakoumakis. After all, he scored more than half his career goals last season with VVV-Venlo. And at 26 years of age, it is not like he is just starting out in senior football.

That will be a worry and Celtic fans will be hoping that last season was more about finding himself rather than a one-off.

If that turns out to be the case then Celtic have a spectacular player on their hands, who dominated the Eredivisie while playing for a team that got relegated.

Also very interesting is his contrast in style with Kyogo and he could prove to be the perfect foil for the Japanese star. What a strike partnership that could turn out to be.

It is still very early and we will need to see a lot more from Giakoumakis before we can come to any conclusions. The early signs have been very positive though.
