Celtic are heading into a very important Europa League game against Ferencvaros. Both teams have lost their opening two games each in the competition and will be looking for a win in order to keep their chances of qualifying for the knockout phase alive.

For Celtic, it will be about more than just three points on the night. After all, Ferencvaros were the team who knocked them out of the UEFA Champions League qualification phase last season. And one can easily point to that game as the point when things started to go wrong for them in the 2020/21 campaign.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have had their fair share of problems this season as well but things have been looking up lately. Both on the pitch and on the injury front.

They are coming off of back-to-backs wins against Aberdeen and Motherwell, respectively. Several of the players are slowly returning from their injuries as well. And it looks one more will be available against Ferencvaros in the form of Adam Montgomery. As reported by the Daily Record, Postecoglou said:

"“We have a clean bill of health from the weekend, everyone got through the game OK.“Coming back in, the only change will be young Adam Montgomery is available. He trained with the team yesterday and today and came through unscathed. So he is ready to go and the rest will be very similar to the weekend.”"

Celtic will need to build on their recent momentum against Ferencvaros

It is safe to say that the past few weeks have been promising for Celtic. They might not have looked at their best but they have certainly done a great job getting a couple of wins on the trot and getting things back on track a bit.

Now it is important though that they carry on building momentum. And the match against Ferencvaros is the perfect opportunity to do that.

Montgomery returning is certainly good news. In the absence of Greg Taylor, he has appeared to be the first-choice left-back in Postecoglou’s side. And while some of his recent performances might have raised a few eyebrows, one must remember that he is still just 19 years of age and this is part of the learning curve for him.
