There is no question about the fact that Celtic and the Rangers share one of the biggest rivalries in all of football. Thus, it is very rare to see players go from one club to the other. That is what makes how the midfielder pulled off a move from the Blue side of Glasgow to the Green and White even more incredible.

Liam Burt played youth football with Celtic growing up but would go on to join the Rangers’ academy later on. He would go through the youth ranks there and eventually make the jump to senior football, even making a few appearances for the first-team there and spending a few seasons away on loan.

Burt would end up joining Celtic in the summer of 2019 in what was a shock move. And while things might not have gone great for him at Parkhead, it was still quiet a memorable transfer.

Burt recently revealed how he managed to pull it off. As reported by Football Scotland, he said:

"“Craig and I had a conversation. He then spoke to Mark Allen and came back and told me the compensation for myself would be a bit of a problem if I was to go and play somewhere else.“I think they were owed a fair bit because I was there for a number of years.“We then ended up coming to an agreement that there would be no fee.“I think Craig spoke to one of the Hibs coaches and maybe he thought that Hibs would be one of the best options available for me. He was happy for me to go there for free.“My agent then got that down in writing that there would be no compensation in my contract. That then opened up a good number of doors and a couple more clubs were interested.“That’s when Celtic got in touch. I just wanted to go and enjoy my football.”"

Then he added about the time Celtic wanted him to play a game in May:

"“I explained that it would be quite a hard conversation to have with Craig Mulholland if I was still under contract at Rangers and I was going to go and play with Celtic.“Maybe if Rangers knew that, they would have put the compensation clause back in my contract. So I kept it quiet.“When my contract ended, I then signed for Celtic. I had a couple of coaches from Rangers wishing me good luck. There was no real anger. It was just the coaches wishing me all the best.”"

Burt pulled off an incredible Rangers to Celtic transfer

As we all know, things did not go as Burt would have expected when he completed a return to Celtic. Of course, the circumstances did not help him either and one can only wonder how things would have gone in a different period of time.

Since then, he has gone on to join Bohemians in the League of Ireland Premier Division and it must be said that the Scottish midfielder is doing quite well for them at the moment.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Burt has scored 9 goals and provided 8 assists in 34 appearances for Bohemians across all competitions till now. That is a very impressive goal contribution every other game from the 22-year-old midfielder who might still have a very bright future ahead of him.
