There is no doubt about the fact that Celtic will need to bring in a number of players in the upcoming January transfer window. As things stand, the squad is pretty thin at Parkhead and we have already seen how badly Ange Postecoglou’s side struggle if a few players get injured.

Thus, there are several areas where they could do with a bit of strengthening and one of them is up front. The cover behind Kyogo at striker does not look great with Giorgos Giakoumakis not having made a single start yet and Albian Ajeti failing to impress in the chances that he was given.

On the other hand, both James Forrest and Mikey Johnston have picked up several injuries over the past few years and have been in and out of action for the most part. Thus, the Hoops could do with another option on the wings as well.

So why not sign someone who is capable of playing in both positions?

Daizen Maeda can be the perfect signing for Celtic

Postecoglou already knows Maeda very well from their time together at Yokohama F. Marinos. And he could very well be the perfect signing for Celtic at this point of time.

He is capable of playing on the wing, as a second striker or even as a striker. At this moment, he is also the top scorer in the J1 League.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Maeda has scored 17 goals and provided 3 assists in 29 J1 League appearances this season.

He possesses brilliant pace, the ability to get past his man and can finish impressively with both his feet. Like Kyogo, he won’t be a physical presence in the box, but can make his mark in the right system.

On top of everything, he is just 23 years of age and already has experience of playing in Europe. As a result, he is a player who might get even better with time and Celtic must keep an eye on.
