Celtic’s disappointing run of form in recent times sees them sit at sixth in the Premiership table and at the bottom of their Europa League group. But there is some cause for excitement for the fans, as Kyogo Furuhashi has made a return to action recently, after spending a few weeks on the sidelines due to an injury.
Winning just three from their last nine games, Celtic are in need of turning things around as soon as possible. The 2-1 victory against Aberdeen before the international break was a massive boost in that regard though.
Kyogo made a huge impact on the team, scoring the opener in what was Celtic’s first league win away from home in a long time. And the Japanese star had also impressed in the previous game against Bayer Leverkusen despite suffering a 4-0 defeat.
While speaking on BBC Sportsound and as reported by BBC, James McFadden said about Kyogo on the day of the Bayer Leverkusen game:
"“Kyogo is constantly on the move. He makes his runs with purpose. He presses from the front too and he is the trigger of Celtic’s press. He allows Rogic and Turnbull to be where they need to be too. He is massive for them.”"
Kyogo is arguably Celtic’s most important player right now
Kyogo’s importance to this Celtic team was clearly visible during his absence, as they struggled going forward without him. Now that he is back, they have looked much better in the previous two games even though results have been mixed. That does not mean that the Japanese star could not improve though.
We have seen Kyogo get so many great chances for Celtic, mostly thanks to his incredible movement. That has led to his great scoring record so far. The next step must be to be even more clinical in front of goal.
While his movement and eye for goal are sensational, at times his finishing does let him down. But if he can improve in that area as well, there is nothing stopping Kyogo from being the best player in all of Scotland. Even now, he is pretty close to that.
