It is safe to say that Liam Scales has not played a lot of football ever since arriving at Celtic in the summer. While there were very high expectations of him when coming in, after a very impressive spell with Shamrock Rovers, he has only made a substitute appearance for Ange Postecoglou’s side since then.

It must be said that he was impressive in that substitute appearance but does not appear to be a regular part of Postecoglou’s first-team plans at the moment.

With his versatility, one would have expected him to be one of the first players to fill in during this period of time, when a number of Celtic players have been out injured and the team have struggled for results, but that has not been the case at all.

Now, Postecoglou has given an update regarding Scales’ situation, who he does not feel is quite ready yet. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the Celtic manager said:

"“We knew it was going to be tough going for Monty this year.“With Greg Taylor out and Liam Scales not quite ready yet he was the one that we were going to rely on.”"

Scales has not played much since joining Celtic

Scales was one of the best players in League of Ireland and many believed that he was ready to come in and immediately become a starter at Celtic. It is safe to say that that has not been the case.

It might be that he just is not ready to play for the first-team or that he is getting used to Postecoglou’s style of football. Whatever may be the case, Scales has not played a lot of football for Celtic till now.

This is not a cause for worry though. At the end of the day, Scales is just 23 years of age and has time on his side. Capable of playing at centre-back, left-back and left wing-back, he could have a big role to play in this team in the future. Hopefully, he will gradually make his way into the first-team picture over the coming months.
