Neil Lennon gives his verdict on Celtic under Ange Postecoglou
Not too long ago, Neil Lennon was the Celtic manager, who seemed pretty well positioned to guide the club to 10IAR. The Hoops had dominated Scottish football for almost a decade and were on the path to winning the Quadruple Treble. But as we all know, things didn’t go their way.
2020/21 was one of the most disappointing campaigns in the club’s history as they finished trophyless. Lennon had stepped down in the middle of the season.
Things have not appeared to improve since then though. Defence has remained a worry for the Hoops while they have struggled to find the back of the net lately as well. Hopes were raised during the team’s 6-game winning streak earlier in the 2021/22 season when they outscored their opponents 24 to 4 but now, it is clear that this will be another tough campaign for Celtic.
While speaking to BT Sport and as reported by the Daily Record, Lennon said about this current Celtic team:
"“It’s just kind of kamikaze at the minute.“It just seems to be we will attack you, you will attack us, and we will see who comes out on top. Tonight there was a ruthless streak in Leverkusen, and a quality of player that Celtic couldn’t match.“Are the players good enough to adapt to the way Ange wants to play? On the evidence of tonight you have to say no.“They are losing too many games at the minute. I would be really reluctant to criticise the manager. There is a rebuilding job here.”"
Celtic have a rebuilding job on their hands but results need to improve
There is no doubt that Celtic have a massive rebuilding job on their hands here. And hopefully some more signings will be made when the transfer window reopens in January and the J1 League season will be over by that point of time.
But until then, results need to improve and quickly. This is a transitional season but Celtic do need to finish in a league position where they give themselves the chance to make the Champions League or the Europa League in the upcoming season.
Some of the performances under the management of Postecoglou have been positive. But at the moment, it is clear that things are not working. And the manager might need to adapt his style a bit until the Hoops start delivering results on a consistent basis again.
