Coming into the game, everybody knew that this was going to be a tough one for Celtic. Bayer Leverkusen are a great team and in brilliant form. But the return of Kyogo Furuhashi and Callum McGregor to the line up did provide some hope.

And once again, it was a bright start for the Hoops, who could have easily gone ahead if they had taken the chances that they had early on.

They didn’t though and by the end of the game, it was a comfortable 4-0 victory for the Bundesliga giants.

Now, this would not have been a terrible result in a vacuum. But after how badly Celtic have struggled in recent times, it will only increase the pressure on Ange Postecoglou and his side, who have lost five times in their last eight matches.

Celtic vs Bayer Leverkusen: 3 things we learned

Here are 3 things we learned from Celtic vs Bayer Leverkusen, as Postecoglou’s side suffered another defeat:

Ange Postecoglou needs to show a Plan B

Till now, Postecoglou has been pretty consistent in saying that his side will play a certain kind of way. But with results not going their way, it is time to show a Plan B.

A free flowing attacking style of football is exactly what should be the long-term vision at Parkhead but at the moment, it does not appear to be working. And one thing that every great manager has in common is that they know how and when to adapt. Postecoglou needs to do the same.

Celtic’s defence remains a huge worry

The performance against Bayer Leverkusen was not as bad as the scoreline would suggest. But Celtic’s defence still remains a huge worry.

Whether it is individual errors or leaving things very open at the back, they need to improve defensively if they are to challenge for titles this season or in the future.

The Aberdeen game could be huge

We are not even in October yet Celtic already appear to have games coming up which could have huge implications on their season. Whether it is those against Ferencvaros in the Europa League or the one against Aberdeen on Sunday.

If the Hoops lose, they will go into the international break sitting at seventh. And that is something that they need to avoid. One positive for the club is that Aberdeen are not in good form themselves and have not won any of their last eight games.
