It is safe to say that Celtic are lacking squad depth at this point of time. With a number of players getting injured recently, Ange Postecoglou has not been left with too many options to pick his team from. As a result, sooner or later, the club must bring in new signings in order to increase the depth of this squad.
One area that they could certainly do with more options in right now is striker. Kyogo Furuhashi has been on the sidelines after picking up an injury while with the Japan national team. On the other hand, Giorgos Giakoumakis is yet to make his debut for the club after arriving on transfer deadline day as he has struggled with fitness issues himself.
As a result, Albian Ajeti appears to be the only striker at the club who is fit at this moment. And while he has scored a few goals recently, his overall performances have not been brilliant.
Celtic could make a smart move by signing a few free agents in the future. And one player who is certainly an interesting option is Daniel Sturridge.
Would Sturridge be a good signing for Celtic?
Yes, we know that Sturridge has struggled with injury issues for years now. But despite his problems, he has always made an impact when he has been on the pitch.
He last played for Trabzonspor. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 7 goals and provided 4 assists for them in 16 appearances while featuring for just 844 minutes. That is a very good record all things considered.
Now, even if Celtic signed the two-time Champions League winner, he most probably would not be the club’s main striker. At 32 years of age and with the number of injuries that he has suffered through the course of his career, that might no longer be a possibility. But he could be a very solid impact player for the club.
Sturridge has never had a problem scoring or assisting, even when he was going through so many setbacks. Thus, signing him on a short-term deal could certainly be a risk worth taking.
