Celtic are not in a good position right now and things need to improve around Parkhead as soon as possible if they are to have a successful campaign this time around. At this point of time, Ange Postecoglou’s side find themselves sixth in the Premiership table after the first seven games. And if they lose their next game, against Aberdeen, they will go into the international break as seventh.

Thus, it is clear that there are a number of areas that this team needs to improve in. But there is some hope for the future that performances will improve once the injured players return to first-team action.

One area that could still be short of options though is midfield. It is not that they do not have enough players capable of playing in the middle of the park. But they are lacking players who can play in different roles.

Tom Rogic and David Turnbull are starting together regularly at this point of time. But neither of them are known for the defensive side of things of their games. While going forward they are great options to have, they do not bring the same kind of intensity to the middle of the park that someone like Ryan Christie did.

Celtic might have made their biggest mistake letting Christie leave on deadline day

Yes, Christie was in the final months of his contract and could have departed in the near future as a free agent. But then, he was looking like the perfect fit in Postecoglou’s style of football.

He was a standout performer when this team was playing some incredible football earlier in the season. And one has to wonder whether the club should have tried to keep him at Parkhead till the end of his contract.

He brought a balance to midfield that if we have not seen since his departure. And with the club not signing a replacement for him on deadline day, and Callum McGregor picking up an injury recently, Celtic have definitely struggled in the middle of the park in recent times.

That might not have happened if Christie was still here and the club might not have lost all the momentum that they have over the past month or so.
