After a brilliant run of form that saw them win six straight games and outscore their opponents 24 to 4, Celtic have struggled for both form and fitness. They have lost four, drawn one and won two of their last seven games, as questions are now starting to appear regarding Ange Postecoglou and whether he is the man to take this side back to the top of Scottish football.

It was always going to be a long journey, after the club finished 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership last season and then underwent a squad transformation this summer.

But it must be said that at this stage last season, they were in a better position than they find themselves in now. And results have to improve if they are to have any chance of challenging for the title this time around.

Postecoglou has decided not to place the responsibility on his players though. And speaking after the match on Celtic TV yesterday and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, John Hartson said:

"“Ange has just said there ‘I’ll take the responsibility away from the players.’ What does that mean? Has he picked the wrong team? Does he mean the players aren’t good enough?“It’s a difficult one and let’s not forget this is coming off the back of one of Celtic’s worst performances in many years against Livingston last week. Celtic have to respond and Ange will have wanted to see a reaction. The endeavour was there and on another day we might have won.“But at the end of the day we haven’t kept a clean sheet and we haven’t been ruthless enough.”"

Celtic need to improve their results quickly but there are genuine reasons for recent form

There is no hiding from the fact that Celtic just have not been good enough in recent weeks and find themselves in a tough situation right now. With 7 games gone, they are sixth in the Premiership table.

That is not where you would expect them to be. But then, there are also genuine reasons behind the drop in form as well.

Most importantly, Postecoglou does not have a lot of players to pick his team from at this point of time with the number of injuries that they have suffered. As a result, there are a lot of them who have been playing a lot of football recently and it is only natural that the intensity from earlier in the season has been missing lately.

Also, there are very important players who are out right now. And once they return, performances are expected to pick up once again.
