At the start of the season, there was a lack of cover at centre-back for Celtic, especially after the departure of Kristoffer Ajer. We saw youngster Dane Murray step in to make an impressive debut after Nir Bitton’s red card in the first leg of the Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland. And of course, Stephen Welsh has had his part to play as well.

But then, the Hoops pulled off the signing of Carl Starfelt from Rubin Kazan. And then right at the end of the summer transfer window, we saw Cameron Carter-Vickers sign on loan for the season from Tottenham Hotspur.

That all helps to strengthen in the heart of defence, but clearly as evident from games throughout the season, there is still a lot of work to be done at the back.

And it appears that there is some good news regarding the centre-back position as well as on the wings. Ange Postecoglou gave an update on the injury situations of Christopher Jullien and James Forrest. As reported by the Daily Record, the manager said:

"“I think after the international window I’d expect both of them to hopefully be training with the first team. After that, it will depend on their levels of fitness and how quickly they adapt to what we want to do with our football.”"

Jullien looks to be nearing Celtic return after long-term injury

It looks like Jullien is nearing a return to the team after his long-term injury. He spent the majority of the previous campaign out of action and is yet to feature this time around. But once he does return, hopefully he will be able to put his injury issues behind him and kickstart his Celtic career once again.

On the other hand, Forrest has had his fair share of injury problems as well. It has been stop-start for him since last season. He has returned to action multiple times before spending time on the sidelines once again.

Both of their returns should be a massive boost to the team. They are experienced players who will bring a lot on and off the pitch.
