With Kyogo Furuhashi’s injury and the departures of Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard on transfer deadline day, the Celtic front line is looking very thin. Albian Ajeti has managed to find the back of the net in recent games but it does not feel like he is the long-term solution up top for the Hoops. Thus, it is clear that Ange Postecoglou could do with another option at striker right now.

When Celtic signed Giorgos Giakoumakis, things were looking more promising and fans were wondering how the forward line might look like with him and Kyogo playing together. But the Greek striker is yet to make his debut for the club while the Japanese star is on the sidelines with an injury.

Giakoumakis was signed on the back of a terrific individual season at VVV-Venlo as he ended up topping the Eredivisie scoring charts. And at the moment, with Kyogo out for a while and the team in bad form, he is more important than ever to Celtic.

But he is yet to feature in a competitive game for the Hoops as it looks like he didn’t have a proper pre-season before arriving at Parkhead. Perhaps an injury picked up towards the end of last season was the reason for that. In that case, it is understandable that it would take some time before he is match fit.

Celtic need Giakoumakis more than ever right now

Celtic need Giakoumakis right now in the absence of Kyogo. And not only do they need him but they need him in top form, which might be difficult, since he has not played football in a while now.

While there have been games where the Hoops have played free flowing football and scored a lot, there have also been games where they have struggled to break down the opposition defence and not looked like scoring at all.

Kyogo is set to be out for a while longer and a few more negative results in the coming games could very well put Postecoglou under some pressure.

Thus, on an off-day, it will be important for them to have a player in this team who can make something out of nothing or find the back of the net with the first chance that he gets. Can Giakoumakis be that player? Let’s hope so.
