It is safe to say that Celtic have not enjoyed a great start to the season. While there has been a lot of positivity around the kind of football that this team has been playing since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager, that will only decrease with every negative result.

Celtic ended up losing 1-0 away at Livingston. It was the opposition’s first league win of the season. On the other hand, Postecoglou’s side have managed to pick up only 9 points from their first 6 league games, which has left them sitting at sixth.

Things must improve as soon as possible. And one area that this team needs to work on is their efficiency.

A quick look at the Scottish Premiership table shows that no team has scored more goals than Celtic. The Hoops have scored 16 goals till now while the second highest scoring team have been Hibernian with 12. But on the other hand, no team has conceded fewer goals either. While defence has been viewed as a worry, they have conceded only 4 goals till now, the same as Dundee United and St Johnstone. As a result, their goal difference is at least twice as good as any other team.

Celtic need to be much more efficient

We see that Celtic have been pretty good when it comes to scoring as well as not conceding many. Yet they find themselves at sixth, which means that it is not one or two teams who have been more efficient than the Hoops but five.

If they are to challenge for the Premiership title, they will need to be much more efficient. In fact, Postecoglou’s side have lost every league game that they have conceded in this season. On the other hand, if you look at Dundee United, they have scored just 3 goals while conceding 4 and yet, they have one point more than Celtic.

Thus, it is easy to see where this team needs to improve if they are to go up the table and hopefully put up a title challenge. What is difficult is how they will make these improvements.
