It is safe to say that Celtic have missed Callum McGregor over the past couple of games. Options already appeared to be limited in the middle of the park for Ange Postecoglou and with the captain out, it has certainly been difficult.

McGregor picked up a knock recently and has not been able to play in the last two games for Celtic. Postecoglou’s side have ended up losing both of those games.

Thus, it will be considered a massive boost for the club to have him fit and available soon. And it looks like he is close to making a return. In fact, he was close to doing so in today’s game against Livingston.

While speaking with BBC Radio Scotland and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, Postecoglou said before the Livingston game:

"“He’s working hard, he was close today but we’ve got to be careful, it’s a long season with a lot of games ahead. We’re pretty confident he’ll be ready for Thursday night and it’ll be great to get him back.”"

McGregor looks set to make his Celtic return soon

With just 9 points from the first 6 Premiership games, it is safe to say that Celtic will have to turn things around as soon as possible if they are to challenge for the title this season after finishing 25 points behind the Rangers the last time around.

Hopefully, McGregor’s return will help in that regard. They have certainly looked like a much better side with him present than not. And his leadership qualities have also been missed.

It is not just McGregor that Celtic have missed though. There have been quite a few injury worries in recent times and the Hoops do not have a lot of players available at the moment.

Hopefully, over the coming weeks they will come back gradually and Postecoglou’s side can rediscover their momentum once again. Over the last five games, they have lost four and could not find the back of the net in two of them. And if the results do not start to improve soon, there will be pressure on Postecoglou this early in his stint as Celtic manager.
