After Dom McKay’s sudden departure from Celtic earlier this month due to personal reasons, it remains to be seen who takes over the Chief Executive role at Parkhead on the long-term. Michael Nicholson is serving as the acting Chief Executive Officer at the moment.

A few names have been linked with the role, with a former Celtic player being one of them. Ramon Vega had a relatively short playing career with the Hoops, having been on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Vega made a memorable debut back in December 2000, scoring twice in a 6-0 win over Aberdeen. He would not remain at the club for long though with his loan spell coming to an end and ended up joining Watford the following season.

And now, as reported by The Scottish Sun, Vega wants to become Celtic’s next chief executive and has thrown his hat into the ring regarding the role.

Vega is reportedly interested in the Celtic chief executive role

Following his retirement, Vega has stayed close to the game but has branched out into several other business ventures as well.

At one point of time, it was believed that he was considering standing as a candidate in the FIFA presidential election. And now, it appears that he has an interest in the chief executive role at Celtic.

It will be interesting to see who ends up getting the role ultimately. It must be said though that whatever happens behind the scenes, Ange Postecoglou needs to get the backing that he needs to take this club forward.

The manager has already established himself as a fan favourite and has the team playing some very entertaining football. While the results might have been mixed till now, it is clear that the club are moving in the right direction under his management. But it is clear that there are several areas that the Hoops need to improve in before they can get back to the top of Scottish football once again.
