There are a lot of players who come through the youth ranks at Celtic but fail to establish themselves in the first-team picture. Many of them go on to have successful careers at other clubs. One former player though appears to be taking a path that not many have travelled in the past.
Sam Wardrop was a very highly-rated player while coming through the youth ranks at Celtic. He even captained the club’s youth sides. And he had represented Scotland at multiple youth levels and on several occasions.
But Wardrop never managed to make a first-team appearance for Celtic. Since then, he has gone on to play for the likes of Dundee United, Dumbarton and Airdrieonians at the senior level.
Now, though he has decided to take a break from playing football and concentrate on coaching and making videos on YouTube and TikTok. He released a statement on his Twitter earlier and plans to fully focus on these for the next year:
I have taken a break from football for personal reasons. I’ve made a video too just to let anyone who’s interested know my reasons why. https://t.co/CFs3WQKrhO pic.twitter.com/ydvSNudUzl

The former Celtic player has decided to take a break from football
While it is natural that some eyebrows will be raised regarding Wardrop’s decision, he must be commended for dedicating himself to doing things that he enjoys.
Yes, it is a path that not many people have travelled in the past but as long as he is enjoying it, it might very well be the right path for him. And it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Wardrop.
Wardrop is set to turn 24 years of age later this year and if he does decide to make a return to football later, he will certainly have time on his side. For the time being, he appears to have taken a break from the game and not quit altogether. We would like to wish him the best of luck in this new journey.
