The fact that players are still making their debuts for Celtic just goes on to show how early we are in Ange Postecoglou’s time as manager of the club. Both Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers got their first taste of football for the Hoops in their 3-0 win vs Ross County.

Carter-Vickers appeared to be the more impressive of the two on the day. He put in an assured performance at the back, keeping a clean sheet and showing some good ability with the ball at his feet. To top it off, he also got a goal on his debut for the club.

On the other hand, Jota did well too. He showed glimpses of why he was regarded as one of the biggest talents in Portugal while coming through the youth ranks at Benfica. The quality that he has on the ball is undeniable. Now, it remains to be seen if he can add the end product to his game.

Ange Postecoglou appeared to be happy with the duo following the game. Speaking with BBC Radio Scotland and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, he said:

"“Yeah I thought both were excellent. We’re still giving guys debuts so I’ve got to keep things in check in terms of progress we’re making.“But Cam came in, and in age terms he’s still a young man but he shows maturity beyond that in the way he plays. I thought he was really good today.“Jota had some really bright spots. He wasn’t ready to play 90 minutes but with the changes I had to make we were forced to leave him out there and it will do him the world of good.”"

Postecoglou happy with the Celtic debuts of Jota and Carter-Vickers

As far as debuts go, both Jota and Carter-Vickers did very well and showed what they can bring to the table at Celtic. Now, it will be about how they can build on this early showing and continue to get better moving forward.

There is no doubt that there will be tougher tests coming up. And how they perform on those occasions could end up determining their Parkhead futures.

The early signs are exciting though. In Carter-Vickers, Celtic could have someone who will bring some much needed solidity at the back. While in Jota, they could have a player with the ability to unlock any defence with his trickery and skills. Both players are on season-long loans with an option to buy included in their respective deals.
