Going into the game, Celtic must have been very confident of their chances. The Hoops had been in spectacular form in recent weeks despite their 2-1 defeat away against AZ Alkmaar in midweek. On the other hand, the Rangers were not quite at full strength and did not have Steven Gerrard in the dugout for the game.

But ultimately, Ange Postecoglou’s side could not find the back of the net on the day. While neither team had too many chances, the Rangers managed to score through Filip Helander and that was enough to give them the three points.

It is clear that the Hoops have made progress in recent weeks. But at the end of the day, this game was proof that there is still quite a bit of work to be done.

There are still a couple of days left in the transfer window and it remains to be seen if the club do end up making any more moves.

3 things we learned from Rangers 1-0 Celtic

Here are three things that we learned as Celtic were handed a 1-0 Glasgow Derby defeat by the Rangers away at Ibrox:

Josip Juranovic decision might have been the wrong one

It was a surprise to see Juranovic in the starting line up today. And it was at left-back that he played.

Of course, the injury to Greg Taylor must have played a huge part in this decision from Postecoglou. But looking back at it, it does look like it was the wrong one.

Adam Montgomery had done very well there in midweek. On the other hand, Juranovic did not look very comfortable playing there, which is understandable considering he is right-footed. When in attack, it was difficult for him to cross while defensively, he did not look at his best either. This was not a debut to remember for the Croatian international right-back but he will be expected to put in better performances in the future.
