It was far from a perfect performance from Celtic, but they managed to get the job done at the end of the day and secured their spot in this season’s Europa League group stage after a 3-2 aggregate win over AZ Alkmaar in their play-off tie.

It was AZ Alkmaar who got the 2-1 win on the night. But the Hoops had come into the game with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg and they did just enough to make it to the group stage of the competition in what must have been a massive boost for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The Hoops had taken the early lead through Kyogo Furuhashi but then conceded twice within the half hour mark. And they must be commended for not conceding again for the rest of the game.

Now, the focus must turn towards the group stage of the competition. This time around, the format is a bit different which is expected to make the competition even more competitive.
