Celtic made a disappointing start to their Premiership campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to Hearts. The hosts took the early lead and then restored it late on to clinch all three points. It was Anthony Ralston who got the goal for the Hoops. Craig Gordon’s two great saves at the end also deserve mention.

The result means that they are already three points behind the Rangers in the Premiership table, who won 3-0 against Livingston earlier.

It is safe to say that Ange Postecoglou’s side have a lot to work on and have started the season very shakily. And of course, more signings are needed if they are to turn things around quickly.

Here are three things we learned from Celtic’s opening day defeat at the hands of Hearts:

Goalkeeping remains a worry for Celtic

For the majority of the second half it looked like it was Postecoglou’s side who were the more likely of the two to find a second goal. They even had the ball in the back of the net at one point but it was adjudged offside, in what was a very tight call.

At the end of the day, Hearts scored the winner late on. But Scott Bain probably should have done better there, especially with his positioning. It looked like the goalkeeper had started to come out for the ball from the free kick and as a result was caught in no man’s land when it was headed towards goal by John Souttar.

Goalkeeping continues to be a worry for the Hoops and it should not come as a surprise if they end up signing a goalkeeper soon. Hart has been heavily linked with the club in recent days.
