A number of players were always expected to depart Celtic this summer. Kristoffer Ajer is one such player.
In his case, there have been rumours of a transfer exit for some time now. He was linked with a move to AC Milan a year earlier and since then, the Norwegian international has been linked with several other clubs. Finally, it looks like it is newly promoted Brentford who have won the race for his signature.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Ajer is poised to complete a £13.5 million move to Brentford. The club will be playing in their first ever Premier League campaign in 2021/22.
If the move goes through, it will be a new record transfer signing for them. Now, it remains to be seen how the Hoops will replace the defender, who has been a regular feature in the Hoops’ first-team for quite a while now.
Major update on Carl Starfelt’s Celtic move
At this point of time, it does look like the Hoops are close to signing Carl Starfelt from Rubin Kazan. But as tweeted out by Russian Football News, the Swedish centre-back trained with the Russian Premier League club today:
Latest update in the Carl Starfelt to Celtic saga is that the Swede trained with Rubin Kazan in Moscow today as they prepare for their final preseason friendly against Sochi tomorrow. 🇸🇪

Starfelt could be a good signing for the Hoops if they can get a deal over the line for him and it does look like he will be a good fit in Ange Postecoglou’s style of football. But would Ajer be a miss and does the move to Brentford make sense for the Glasgow giants?
With just a year left on his current deal with the club, it certainly does. £13.5 million is a significant transfer fee and could go a long way in the squad rebuild. He will be a miss on the pitch though and the club need to replace him.
On the other hand, it provides Ajer with the chance to play in the Premier League. So many former Celtic players have flourished after moving down South, and the Norwegian certainly has the ability to be the next one.
