There is still history to be made this season for Celtic. Although the Premiership race has been lost in disappointing fashion and the League Cup is gone as well, the Scottish Cup remains a target.

After the international break, it should be back to business as usual for the Hoops at the weekend. While a lot of eyes will be on the moves that the club make over the course of the summer, the players cannot get distracted from the task at end. There is still the chance to end this campaign on a positive note with a trophy.

This weekend should be very different and offers a step to making even more history. The Scottish Cup returns for the Hoops with a home game against Falkirk on Saturday in the third round of the campaign.

And David Turnbull appears to be looking forward to it. He was left out of the most recent Scotland national squad, perhaps surprisingly.

Can Celtic make more history?

Training this week has been limited due to players being away on international duty. To the surprise of many, the Scotland squad didn’t include Turnbull. This allowed him to stay back and train with the team.

While talking with Celtic’s official website, he said of the training:

"“There are a few boys missing because of the international fixtures but a few young boys have been training with us which has helped so the training has been good and high intensity. It’s been brilliant really, I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”"

There is one area of his game that he is looking to improve even further and that is scoring goals:

"“I just want to keep creating and scoring as many goals as I can, help the team out and show the fans what I can do. Since I’ve started playing, even at Motherwell, I wanted to base my game on goals. A goal-scoring midfielder can be hard to come by so I’m just trying to add that to my game every week. Wherever I’m put in, whether it’s a 10 role, deeper or out wide I enjoy doing it.”"

To be very honest, Turnbull has probably been the club’s best player this season. According to Transfermarkt, he has scored 8 goals and provided 6 assists this season. Although one of those goals did come for Motherwell.

If the club are to create history by winning a fifth straight Scottish Cup, it is safe to say that he could play a huge role in that quest. And moving forward, while it does look like the club will undergo an overhaul, he must remain one of the central figures in the team.
