Once again, Celtic were not anywhere near the top of their game. But thankfully, they managed to keep a clean sheet and come out with all 3 points against Aberdeen. As a result, the Hoops have now built up some decent momentum, at least in terms of results if not performances.
A brilliant strike from David Turnbull was enough to get the win, as the midfielder continues to establish himself as one of the most important players in this team.
And while Neil Lennon would have liked his side to score a few more goals, especially considering they had two strikers up top and were facing an Aberdeen side without a win in 5 games. But at the end of the day, a win is a win.
Here are three things we learned from the Hoops’ 1-0 win this evening:
David Turnbull is the future of Celtic
What a difference Turnbull has made ever since coming into this team. He has been absolutely undroppable and at this point of time, he might be the best player at the club, even with Odsonne Edouard hitting form once again.
It was his goal that secured all three points for the Hoops and it would not be a surprise if the team is built around him moving forward.
Goals remain a problem for Neil Lennon’s side
The Hoops have struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis this season, even when they are playing in Scotland, where it was not rare to see them score 4-5 goals consistently not too long ago.
A huge reason for that has been the lack of goals all around the team. While Edouard and Turnbull, and Elyounoussi to an extent, have scored, not too many others have managed to. Tonight, they just had 3 shots on target.
Stephen Welsh is first choice
It is not mere co-incidence that Celtic defend better whenever Welsh plays. At this point of time, he is just a better option than Shane Duffy and should be playing regularly.
Thus, Lennon must stick with him and Ajer at the heart of defence moving forward. Let’s just hope he can remain injury free. Also, the presence of Jonjoe Kenny at right-back seems to be helping on the defensive end.
