This is going to be an extremely interesting fixture in so many ways. It’s critical in the timeline and momentous in what a result either way means. But it’s already been indicated by the board with their ‘review in the new year’ approach that it’s not necessarily going to decide Lennon’s immediate future. It may help influence what happens in January, it may help as a glow of satisfaction and a happy place within this season, but it doesn’t look like a win or bust scenario for the manager.

If Celtic win and complete last season with another treble, an unprecedented fourth in a row, it’s a huge achievement. Something that no other team in the world has ever achieved. But it will be overshadowed by the current run of results this season. It may not feel like an end of season treble if it happens, but it should be celebrated as such. It could be another small turning point and restore some confidence in the players though.

If Celtic lose, it will shatter any remaining confidence. It will feel like the next step in the end of that glorious run for the club. And despite the board statement and intentions, the heat will be on them and Lennon again for sure.
