Celtic might be set to make another move for the Premier League man in January after a transfer materialise in the summer transfer window.

The summer window is only just closed and already we see rumours for January’s transfer merry go round. Strengthening squads is an all year round activity so it would be no shock if Celtic were making plans for January as well.

Neil Lennon revealed that he’d been interested in Diego Laxalt at the last summer window, so we do see the club returning to players that have been identified and researched as possible signings.  Last weekend there was a sudden flurry of news, rumour and activity around the prospect of Robert Snodgrass joining Celtic on loan from West Ham United. Was there any fact to that and could it still happen at some point?

Yes and very possibly are the two answers. Sky Sports reported the initial approach by Celtic to West Ham for Snodgrass. It’s definitely got some substance but it does appear to have been a contingency. Celtic were wary of possible last minute bids for their own players and wanted to be prepared to be able to get replacements in.

The Hoops had been caught out before when Moussa Dembele moved out right at the end of the transfer window and leaving the club a striker down. They’d want to be well prepared if Olivier Ntcham or Tom Rogic for example attracted late interest.

Talking about a potential deal in Football Insider, Noel Whelan spoke of Snodgrass.

"“I think it is a transfer that they might revisit in January.“I think it would be a good move for him. A Scotland lad and I am sure at some point he would like to go back home. Celtic could squeeze that last bit of quality out of him to help the team.”"

Snodgrass isn’t getting much game time at West Ham this season and will be out of contract there after this season, an option to extend for 12 months does exist. That does all suggest a deal is there to be done if Celtic are interested and January may well be the time to revisit that.
