The former Celtic player has been told by doctors that his career is over at just 23 years of age after struggling with injuries.

It is always hard to see someone being told that he or she cannot do what they have worked for their entire lives. Especially when it is someone as young as Charly Musonda, who spent the 2017-18 on loan at Celtic from Chelsea although he managed just 8 appearances.

Once considered one of the brightest prospects in all of Europe, Musonda’s career has been derailed by constant injuries. It has been four years since he managed to play back-to-back games and now it looks like it could be over for good. The Belgian has been told by his doctors that there is very little chance of him ever playing again.

Musonda took to Instagram earlier to open up about his heartbreak but it is great to see that he has not given up hope and continues to work hard to make a comeback. Although that has been described by his doctors as an ‘impossible mountain to climb’ because of his injuries.

Musonda wrote:

"“It’s been four years since I played back to back professional games, three years since I last played for my club, two of those last four years, I’ve been injured with the post cruciate ligament of my knee.“Nothing but heartbreak and heartache. Doctors told me going through surgery after being out for so long would be the end, an impossible mountain to climb, were the exact words.“I miss football so much, to say the least, and I’m doing everything I can to play once again, to all the kids out there who have a dream and are injured or are going through monumental setbacks, never give up!“I’ll keep climbing the insurmountable mountain everyday to run with the football once again, because there’s no better feeling than taking someone on and feeling alive.“Until that day comes I’ll keep training and believing in the impossible comeback, because the greatest comebacks always seem like there is no way back, and that’s when we’ve got to dig deep and live to tell the story and not die in it.”"

It was not too long ago that the sky looked like the limit for Musonda. He joined Chelsea from Andrelecht’s famed youth academy and was very highly-rated there. He was sent on loan to Real Betis and looked great there, scoring once and assisting three in 24 La Liga appearances. He joined Celtic on loan after that in what was considered a great move for both player and club.

Things have gone downhill since then and he only managed to make a few appearances for the Hoops. It has been a few years since then but he continues to struggle to make it onto the pitch as a result of his injuries. We hope though that Musonda manages to get through this and one day manages to get back to doing what he loves most – play football. Best of luck, Charly.
