Celtic have held talks with the government over Odsonne Edouard after the French striker tested positive for the coronavirus while away on international duty.

Celtic’s campaign was dealt another blow last night when the French national team confirmed that Odsonne Edouard had tested positive for the coronavirus. Now, the biggest question is when he had picked up and whether he ended up infecting his teammates.

At this point of time, no other Celtic player or staff has returned positive tests. All of his teammates have returned positive results have returned negative results since their 2-0 win over St Johnstone on Sunday. But that can change in the near future and as a result, the club must continue testing rigorously.

Celtic issued the following statement last night after the news broke of Edouard’s positive test:

"“We can confirm that Odsonne Edouard has tested positive for COVID-19 while on international duty with France U21.“As it stands, no other Celtic player has returned a positive test.“Our thorough testing programme will continue and we will continue to follow all protocols.”"

The club are reportedly suspecting that the Frenchman contracted the disease while traveling to Clarefontaine to report for his national under-21 side. Of course, that would mean that no other Celtic player was infected by Edouard at least. With the Glasgow Derby right after the international break, the Hoops have one other worry on their hands though.

As reported by the Daily Record, the club held talks with government health officials in order to determine whether Edouard was required to quarantine for a couple of weeks in France before being allowed to travel back to Glasgow. Of course that would see him miss the game against the Rangers.

Whatever may be the case, the most important thing now is for Edouard to make a quick recovery. We would at The Celtic Bhoys like to send him our best wishes and hope to see him back on the pitch, tearing up opposition defences as soon as possible. Get well soon, Eddy.
