Celtic are very close to signing AC Milan star on loan
Celtic are very close to completing the signing of the AC Milan star on a loan deal as they look to finish this transfer window in style.
Deadline day madness is well an truly upon us. Yesterday, news broke of Celtic looking set to sign Robert Snodgrass but cold water was poured upon those hopes pretty soon. But now it looks like the Hoops might have found themselves an even better option in the form of versatile AC Milan star Diego Laxalt.
Laxalt has failed to become a regular in the AC Milan team since joining them in 2018. Over that time he has made only 11 starts for the Italian giants and spent last season away on loan at Torino.
The talent is not the question with Laxalt as he has made 24 appearances for a very strong Uruguay national team and looked like an absolute superstar while playing for Genoa, which led to links with clubs like Chelsea. Things have gone downhill for him since though and it might very well be because AC Milan is not the right fit for him.
AC Milan’s loss could end up being Celtic’s gain though as it looks that they are set to complete the signing of Laxalt on a season-long loan as reported by the very reliable Gianluca Di Marzio.
Capable of playing at left-back, left-midfield and left-wing, Laxalt might be the perfect fit as the left-wingback in Neil Lennon’s 3-5-2 formation. It is a position that Celtic have very little depth at, with Greg Taylor the only option available right now.
The addition of Laxalt would represent a huge acquisition for Celtic as they will be getting a player who had once shown world-class potential. And if Neil Lennon can get the best out of him, he could end up being one of the best players in Scotland.
