Celtic have learned about Robert Snodgrass’ wages ahead of a potential blockbuster switch to Parkhead for the West Ham United winger.

With deadline day approaching, it is no wonder that transfers are coming in from left, right and centre. Nobody at Celtic saw this one coming though as it looks like Robert Snodgrass is set for a sensational switch to the Scottish Champions.

Snodgrass has enjoyed a terrific career down South playing for clubs like Norwich City, Hull City and West Ham United in the Premier League while also representing Leeds United and Aston Villa in the Championship. The 33-year-old winger is currently at West Ham United but has found it difficult to break into their first-team under David Moyes. He still remains a class player scoring 5 goals and assisting another 5 in just 17 league starts last season.

And it is probably James Forrest’s injury which has forced Celtic into looking for another winger. Fans can’t have complain though if the winger is someone as decorated as Snodgrass, even if it is a season-long loan.

One of the biggest issues that Celtic faces when taking Premier League stars on loan is their wages. The Scottish champions cannot afford to pay extravagant amounts of money like clubs in England can. But it looks like that will not be a problem in the case of Snodgrass.

Snodgrass is currently on £40,000 per week at West Ham United next season but it is likely that his parent club would be happy to get rid of someone with very little chance of first-team football for them. As a result, Celtic could negotiate a very good deal here where they could have to pay just half or even less of his wages.

Someone like Snodgrass will bring not only his talents but also his wealth of experience as a player, something that the Hoops could use as they gear up a 10IAR challenge. Thus, this could end up being a very shrewd addition if Celtic manage to pull it off.
