It looks like Celtic’s transfer chase for Ryan Sessegnon is over and the Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid won’t be playing in the Hoops this season.

There is no doubt about Ryan Sessegnon’s talent. In fact, many Celtic fans would consider him a dream signing for the season, even on a loan deal. And there is a very good chance that the English wonderkid would absolutely tear up the league if decided to move to Scotland.

So when his name was linked with that of Celtic, fans were excited and for good reason. It was also reported that Neil Lennon had called the youngster in order to convince him to complete the loan move. But it looks like there is very little chance of donning the famous Hoops this season.

The finances always seemed like a major mountain to climb for Celtic with Tottenham reportedly demanding that the loan club pay most of his £60,000 per week wages, something that would be very difficult for the Hoops to do. Especially with the global pandemic wrecking havoc on the club’s finances.

And now it looks like that Sessegnon is headed to Germany after the very reliable Fabrizio Romano broke the news. The transfer insider tweeted out:

When Romano puts something out, it is true. So Celtic will have to turn their attention elsewhere as their search for a left-back continues.

What ended up costing the Hoops the chance to sign Sessegnon still remains a question though. Perhaps it was the finances of the move as previously reported. Or probably the player just did not fancy a move to Scotland.

Whatever may be the case, Celtic cannot afford to sit still. There are only a couple of days left in the transfer window and they have to somehow find a way to sign a new left-back in the short span of time remaining.
