Celtic have been handed a transfer blow in their chase for Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon as their search for a new left-back continues.

It is no secret that Celtic are looking for another left-back. Greg Taylor has not looked like someone who is ready to be a starter for the club yet. On the other hand, both Jonny Hayes and Boli Bolingoli have left in the current transfer window, meaning that Neil Lennon has very little depth available to him in the position.

One name whose name has gained some traction in the Celtic transfer rumour circles in the last couple of days is Ryan Sessegnon. While the finances of the deal were always going to be an issue, the club have shown in the current transfer window that they can get deals over the line when they really try, as was the case with Shane Duffy.

The transfer window is set to close on October 5th though and they are in a race against time to make something happen. And unfortunately, it might be a bit too late for them to reach a deal for the Tottenham man.

Sky Sports Journalist, Anthony Joseph, tweeted out:

"Celtic are running out of time to sign a left-back before the October 5 deadline. An approach was made for Spurs defender Ryan Sessegnon, but the finances have proved problematic. And I’m told that no improved bid has gone in for Charlton’s Alfie Doughty, at this stage."

There is no doubt that Sessegnon would be an absolutely brilliant signing if Celtic manage to sign him. A player of his quality would most probably just tear up Scottish football and is a perfect fit at left-wingback in Neil Lennon’s 3-5-2 formation.

He is on about £60,000 per week at Tottenham and it looks like the Premier League side are open to the move if Celtic agree to pay most of his salary. That might end up being a mountain to steep for the Hoops to climb but we can hope that the two sides can reach an agreement before the window slams shut.
