Celtic have identified a new left-back target as their attempts to sign Charlton Athletic’s Alfie Doughty have dragged on without any breakthrough.
It is no secret that Celtic are in need of signing a new left-back before the transfer window slams shut in a week. The club decided to let Jonny Hayes leave in the summer and were almost forced to loan out Boli Bolingoli after his disastrous trip to Spain in the middle of the pandemic without letting the authorities and then playing in a league game instead of quarantining.
Those deals though have left with Greg Taylor as the only left-back at the club and that lack of depth is certainly a cause for concern. Combine that with the fact that the Scot has been very inconsistent in his performances for Celtic and another option in the position almost becomes a necessity. Especially in a season when they will challenging for a historic 10IAR and can’t afford to leave no stone unturned.
Alfie Doughty is a man who has been linked with the club for quite some time now with the Hoops reportedly making multiple bids for the Charlton Athletic youngster. They have failed to make a breakthrough yet though with the Championship club standing firm and it might be for Celtic to turn their attention to other options with the window not open for much longer.
And it looks like the Scottish champions have identified Danish left-back Casper Hojer as the man to challenge Greg Taylor for the Celtic starting spot according to the Daily Record. The 25-year-old currently plays for Aarhus GF. In 37 appearances last season, he scored 4 goals and provided 9 assists, and could be an asset for Neil Lennon in that wingback role. With just a year left on his contract, a £1.5 million bid could be enough to lure him to Parkhead.
It will be interesting to see though whether Celtic are really after the Dane or are just looking to use this as a negotiation tactic to get a deal done for Alfie Doughty.
