Another Celtic star linked with Premier League move
It looks like Edouard is not the only Celtic star who is wanted by Premier League clubs as another man has been linked with a move to England.
It is undeniable that Celtic cannot keep up with the financial riches of Premier League sides and there is always the danger of the club’s best players being lured away. With West Ham United missing out on some of their previous transfer target defenders thus far, it seems David Moyes’ club are now looking at Kristoffer Ajer as an option in defence according to reports.
Other clubs that have been mentioned in recent weeks as pursuing Ajer’s services include West Bromwich, Southampton, and Milan. With the defender projected to fetch as much as £20 million, his sale would net Neil Lennon and company quite a bit of cash to find a replacement.
At just 22 years old, Kristoffer Ajer has performed well in defence paired with Jullien and now Shane Duffy. Having joined the club for just £500,000 in 2016, he would be the latest of Celtic’s historical finds that have netted major profits after a few seasons in Glasgow.
Ajer has been a major part of the club’s success in recent years, making 135 appearances for the side since joining in 2016, being a part of three successive league titles.
With the way Lennon’s Bhoys have been playing, Ajer would potentially be sorely missed in the short term if a sale occurs, especially if no replacement is found quickly. Some targets the Hoops could look to pursue as replacement include Sampdoria’s Omar Colley, Preston’s Ben Davies, or even Ryan Porteous from Hibs.
With time running out in the current transfer window, the club would need to find a solid replacement quickly if a deal is done for Kristoffer Ajer’s departure.
