The pundit called out three Celtic players for their attitude issues as the team struggled to a 1-0 win away against Riga in the Europa League qualifiers.
Celtic have not been in great form lately. Yes, the individual quality present in the squad means that they can eke out wins on most days but that does not mean that they are playing well as a team at the moment.
Going into the game, Celtic were expected to dominate the game against Riga and come out with a comfortable win from Latvia. Instead, the side looked laboured the entire game and had to rely on a 90th minute winner from Mohamed Elyounoussi to make it through the next round of the Europa League qualifiers. Thus, it is no surprise that the Scottish media has come out hard against some of the players.
One man who has not looked his usual self this season is Scott Brown. But Peter Martin believes that the Celtic captain is not the problem and instead it is three other players playing in the Hoops who have attitude issues.
Yes, Ajer and Edouard have not come out firing at the start of this season. But we know about the quality of both on top of their games. On top of that, there have been fitness concerns around the Frenchman as well which might very well be the main reason behind his recent downturn in form. The inclusion of Jullien in this list is confusing though.
Jullien did not even play against Riga and has not for a couple of weeks because of his own injury issues. Thus, it is hard to make out how his attitude issues, if indeed present, could affect the team’s performance last night.
Whatever may be the case, all three named are big players and regular starters for the club. As a result, it is time for the fans to back them instead of jumping on them.
