Celtic might be set to land a major coup by signing the highly-rated Championship star on a free transfer in the near future.

Celtic have done some impressive business this season, signing the likes of Vasilis Barkas, David Turnbull and Albian Ajeti on permanent deals. They also managed to extend the loan deal of Mohamed Elyounoussi for another season. But it has been the season-long loan of Shane Duffy for another season.

The Republic of Ireland defender has come out of the blocks firing on all cylinders, scoring in both the games he has featured in till now. And he has also given him the flexibility to Neil Lennon to move to 3-5-2, a formation that they have always appeared much more suited to.

Things never stay still at a club the size of Celtic though and it looks like the club might already be in pole position to make a major coup for next summer’s transfer window. And that will be in the form of landing Preston North End defender Ben Davies on a free.

Davies has been a regular for the Championship side for the past three seasons and is capable of playing in the centre of defence as well as on the left. It goes without saying that that makes him a tempting option for Celtic, especially with Kristoffer Ajer eventually expected to leave the club.

Davies has only one more season left on his contract at Preston North End and as reported by the Scottish Sun, Celtic are in pole position to get him to sign a pre-contract agreement in January that will see him join the Hoops for free at the end of the season.

Of course, that will be some terrific business for a player currently rated at around £5-million. Of course, things can change if Preston decided to cash in when they still have time.
