Barry Ferguson has made an unexpected transfer admission about Celtic, despite playing for Glasgow rivals Rangers for many years.

For a man who has played for Rangers in two separate stints and for a combined 13 seasons, it is very unlikely for him to have too many good things to say about Celtic. It does appear though that he is open to the idea of his nephew Lewis Ferguson playing for the Hoops in the future if the Scottish champions are indeed interested.

It is not only Barry Ferguson though, who represented the Rangers in their family. Lewis’ father, Derek Ferguson, also had an extended career at Ibrox. And thus, it would actually be quite an unlikely sight to see the Aberdeen midfielder actually pull on the Hoops one day.

Ferguson though has made an impression while playing for Aberdeen. In 87 appearances, he has scored 14 goals and made 18 assists from central midfield. And it would be no surprise if Celtic are indeed keeping an eye on him. After all, it would go with their current policy of signing young, promising Scottish players.

And it looks like that his uncle would not be opposed to the idea at all. Speaking with GoRadio and as cited by the Daily Record, he said:

"“Lewis is his own guy, he’d make his own decision. I don’t think it would be a factor in Lewis making that decision that his dad and his uncle played for Rangers.“He’s got a good head on his shoulders and I don’t think that would worry him. Whether Celtic are interested in him, I don’t know, I know there’s been a lot of talk about Celtic and Rangers.“If I’m being honest, I do think he’s good enough to play for both of those teams. Each year he’s improved and this season he’s had a real good start.“I wouldn’t hold anything against him, I just want the best for him and for him to have a good career in the game. He’s done it the hard way, he let go by Rangers as a kid. He had that knock, went to Hamilton and worked his way up and got the move to Aberdeen.“He’s flourished under Derek McInnes and I think if he keeps his form up that he’s shown, I think Aberdeen will find it hard to hold onto him.”"

Ferguson has certainly been impressive this season, scoring thrice and assisting another in just 5 appearances. He does have four years still left on his Aberdeen contract and would command a pretty high transfer fee. And it is unlikely that Celtic would be interested in bringing him in this transfer window, especially after bringing in David Turnbull while Tom Rogic’s move to Qatar has also seemingly fallen through.
