Another Celtic player is closing in on Parkhead exit
Another Celtic player is headed for the Parkhead exit door and this one will hurt considering how much potential he had coming through.
Football is a funny game. You can look destined for the very top while coming through the youth ranks and then not deliver on any of that promise when you make the jump to the professional ranks. That is pretty much what has happened with Jack Aitchison, who was once considered the crowned jewel of the Celtic youth system.
Aitchison became the youngest player to ever feature in a competitive game for Celtic, when he made his debut just a couple of months after 16 against Motherwell. And what is more, he scored with his very first of the game, becoming the club’s youngest ever scorer as well. Naturally, the buzz surrounding him was massive as he seemed destined to be a first-team star at Parkhead for years to come.
It is safe to say, that he has not delivered on that early promise. The remainder of his Celtic career has seen him away on loan spells at Dumbarton, Alloa Athletic and Forest Green Rovers. And now it looks like he is headed for a permanent exit.
Scottish journalist Alan Nixon has claimed that he is headed to Barnsley, even calling him an ‘Ex Celtic’:
It looks like a story of what could have been for Aitchison. Unfortunately, it looks like things are never going to work out for him at Parkhead. And it might be the best for all parties involved if the move goes through.
He did have an above average spell at Forest Green Rovers last season, scoring 6 goals in 25 appearances and probably a move to Barnsley might help him unlock some of that untapped potential.
