Edouard will sign new Celtic contract only on one condition

Odsonne Edouard is open to the idea of signing a contract extension with Celtic but only if the club meet  one of his demands.

One of the things on the top of every Celtic fans’ wish list right now must be signing Odsonne Edouard to a new contract. There is no doubt that he is the best player in Scotland right now. And while the Hoops have done well in the transfer market till now, it would mean nothing if they end up losing the Frenchman before 10IAR.

Edouard was incredible last season and picked it right back up by scoring a hat-trick on opening day. But since then, he has found it a bit harder to find the back of the net and has had an injury issue as well.

He did come on as a late substitute to score for the French under-21 team last night though. And that can only mean that he will be back in the mix when the international break comes to an end.

His incredible form though has meant that he has attracted the interest of clubs all around Europe. And the reality of the situation is that Celtic are a selling club at this point of time. So, some time in the future Edouard is expected to leave.

With his contract running down though, Celtic will be concerned about getting the most value that they can out of the Frenchman. The ideal solution would be to sign him to a lucrative new contract. And it appears that he is open to the proposition but only on one condition.

According to Football Insider, Edouard and his agents want a release clause put into his new contract.

Now that could work for Celtic only if the price is right. It makes no sense to put in something like £20 million as the release clause into his contract. But something around £35-40 million makes a lot of sense. And we have seen in the past, that clubs are actually open to paying a little more when a release clause is present.
