Are Celtic set to drop another Bolingoli bombshell?
By StevieMac
We all know what Bolingoli did, we have no idea what he was thinking. We know the player has upset the start of season plans and games for Celtic. Is there a further bombshell to come?
Boli Bolingoli’s trip to Spain has already caused huge waves across Scottish football and disrupted fixtures for clubs. We’ve seen the news of the SFA 5 match ban for the player, 2 of which are suspended into next year in case of any further breaches.
We know that Celtic are investigating the situation and are expected to rule on their own disciplinary outcome soon. Many felt that could involve the player leaving the club, sold or on loan. There may be difficult times still ahead as the implications of disciplinary decisions become clearer?
No matter what many fans may feel, the practicalities and financial implications of Bolingoli’s contract being terminated make that an unlikely scenario, especially after this long. Neil Lennon’s words on Bolingoli were softening even if his true feelings may not be. As reported in the Daily Record ahead of Sunday’s Motherwell match Lennon isn’t yet saying we won’t see the player again and he may yet return to the squad and training:
"“We’ll have our own sort of in house disciplinary and we’ll take it from there.“It has sort of dragged on a little bit now. We’ll obviously have to look at that and see when and if he can come back in.”"
Broony and the lads will no doubt have a welcome lined up for him in training if he does reappear. Maybe not one for the Celtic TV cameras.
We saw a couple of signs of interest in the player a few weeks ago from other clubs, but these have fallen through. One definitely because of Bolingoli’s behaviour with even Neil Warnock saying he isn’t interested now. And he signed El Hadji Diouf a year after making controversial comments about him, so he’s not too fussy!
Where do we think we’ll find a club willing to take an already poorly performing player with a behavioural problem and a suspension ban hanging over him? Even if a club was willing, the deal won’t be great and Celtic could lose heavily and maybe even still need to cover wages if he was loaned out.
As the club look to strengthen across the pitch and spend heavily on Albian Ajeti, maybe Shane Duffy and possible wages deals for the likes of Odsonne Edouard, could the Bolingoli situation undermine any bids to get another left back in? Talks have apparently been held with Leeds enquiring about Barry Douglas. If the club can’t move Bolingoli on, does that restrict signing another Left Back to give Greg Taylor much needed competition?
Let’s hope not. If that did emerge as the issue then perhaps we’ll be looking to Andrew Gutman whose US loan ends this year.
