Premier League club are preparing massive bid for Edouard
The Celtic superstar has been the target of some of the biggest clubs in the world. Now, the Hoops have a tough decision on their hands.
According to The Daily Mail, Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard is subject of interest to Premier League side Aston Villa. Seeking to bolster their forward ranks, the Birmingham club are rumoured to be preparing a considerable £30 million bid for the France U-21 international. Largely regarded as the best player at Parkhead and indeed in Scotland, the Hoops will be eager to fend off any interest in their talisman, as the Glasgow club strive towards a record-shattering tenth league title in a row.
Encouragingly, manager Neil Lennon has eluded to talks surrounding obtaining Edouard’s services for the present campaign contractually, stating:
"“There are ongoing discussions at the minute with his representatives.”"
Top scorer in the SPFL last season with 22 goals in 27 outings, Lennon has admitted it is unavoidable that there won’t be potential suitors for the Frenchman due to the qualities he demonstrates on a consistent basis.
Despite this, Edouard has not given any indication of wanting to exit Scotland this summer as claimed by the Sun. Having come into his stride since the 2017/18 season, Edouard could see one more season at Celtic Park as the perfect springboard to eventually gain a move to an elite-level European club.
Qualifying for the UEFA Champions League Group Stages could be pivotal to the Bhoys keeping grasp of the 22-year-old. With a promising pathway to the competition proper in sight, alongside expected reinforcements from Neil Lennon in other positional realms, this may just be sufficient to enable Odsonne Edouard to commit to Celtic for the immediate future.
Edouard’s exit is unavoidable, but the club would do well to keep him around for the 10IAR and further increase his value.
